Two national titles, two silver medals for the FELT-ÖTZTAL-X-BIONIC squad

Tuesday, July 19, 2011
It was the next great weekend for the FELT Pros, chasing the medals at the Nationals with fantastic results:

First title: Switzerland U23 national Championship – Winner Thomas Litscher: Thomas Litscher was in a class of his own winning by two minutes over Matthias Stirnemann and Jérémy Huegenin.

Second title: Austrian national Championship – Winner Karl Markt, Bronze medal for Simon Scheiber: Hard weather conditions at the location in Hohenems couldn’t stop Karl Markt from his first Austrian Cross Country title – for him a dream comes true and he is the first Austrian man to win both – Marathon and Cross Country titles. Teammate Simon Scheiber followed Karl on the podium and took the bronze medal.

Silver medal for Sabrina Enaux at the French national Championship: After a difficult last World Cup race in Windham USA Sabrina felt strong again and celebrated her 5th silver medal at a national Championship. “Julie Bresset (current World Cup Leader) was too strong for me, but I am satisfied with the race and I felt very strong on my EDICT”,  Sabrina mentioned after the finish line.

Silver medal for Blaza Klemencic at the Slovenian national Championship: The Slovenian crowd expected a big battle between former world cross country U23 champion Tanja Zakelj and former European marathon champion Blaza Klemencic. Both riders managed to come in the top 10 in the last two World Cup races, so the expectations for the win were big for both athletes. At the end Zakelj had the better legs and crossed the line 1.30 min ahead of Blaza. “ Today Tanja was the best, but I am focused on the next important goals – European Championship, the two next World Cups and of course the World Championship”, Blaza comments after the hard race.

Natascha Binder with two stage wins and overall lead at the Trans Alp stage race: It is one of the hardest MTB stage races in the world, with 8 stages - 670K of trails and over 21.000m altitude difference. 500 teams (made up of two athletes) started on Saturday the first stage, the FELT-ÖTZTAL-X-BIONIC marathon specialist Natascha Binder and her teammate Daniele Troesch pushed hard right from the line and took the first pink leader jersey in the women category. Another win in Stage 2 with a gap of over 3 minutes.
Yesterday the weather changed with a little bit snow at the upper parts of the mountains. Natascha said after the race: ”Today was the hardest race and the biggest fight I’ve ever made and I give a special thank to the engineers of the EDICT, without this phenomenal working bike we would have lost our leader jersey.” It was a exciting finish - at the end of stage 3 the Felt duo came in at 2nd position, but 30 seconds left to stay in the pink jersey. The Trans Alp race ends on 23rd of July in Riva del Garda, if you want to follow Natascha on the way to the finish you’ll find the news here: www.bike-transalp.de
