San Fernando, Spain —
Patrick Gretsch of the
Project 1t4i team made Sunday a day to remember, giving the squad its
second big win of the day after his teammate Marcel Kittel’s
earlier stage win at the Tour of Oman. Gretsch hammered his
Felt DA to
victory in the
prologue stage at the
Tour of Andalucia. Gretsch flew through the 6km stage in San Fernando, Spain, clocking a time of 6:49, 2 seconds faster than Spaniard Markel Irizar.
Sunday’s two wins by the German 1t4i duo of Gretsch and Kittel have given the Felt-sponsored team a red-hot start to the season.
The five-day Tour of Andalucia, also known as the Ruta del Sol, or Route to the Sun in English, has been a major early-season stage race on the European calendar since 1925. The race continues through Thursday, when it will finish in La Guardia de Jaén.
