Rock Hill, South Carolina --
Felt-sponsored rider
Cari Higgins won the 2012
U.S. Elite Ominum Track National Championship in South Carolina, winning four of the six events that comprised the women’s competition over two days.
Higgins started off strong on Friday, racing her
Felt TK1 to
wins in the
flying lap, the
points race and the
elimination race. The next morning she started off by finishing second in the individual pursuit, which essentially locked up the title for her.
“I rode a pretty conservative pursuit for second place,” said Higgins, who iives in Boulder, Colorado. “It kept my lead and I knew going into the scratch race that it would be hard for Kim [Geist, winner of the pursuit and second-place overall] to make up those points.”
Higgins, who races for the
Exergy Twenty12 team, now has
12 national championship titles to her name. She said that after taking a year off from racing the omnium event last year, her second championship title in the event means ever more.
“To come back and just show my dominance in this event feels really good,” she said.
