Hammer Wins World Cup Omnium, Bell takes Bronze

Monday, December 20, 2010
Cali, Columbia - Team OUCH's Sarah Hammer took her first 2010-2011 World Cup Gold Medal with a win in the Women's Omnium.  Hammer, a three time World Champion in the Individual Pursuit, has performed well in her transition to the multi-race event.  Fellow Felt Athlete Zach Bell took Bronze in the Men's Omnium.  The Canadian took Second Place in the Melbourne Men's Omnium two weeks prior, and retains his second place in World Cup rankings.
Hammer, who just began competing in the Omnium this year, was the class of the field in Cali.  The 27-year-old American won each of the first four events (Flying Lap, Points Race, Elimination Race, and Individual Pursuit) on her way to Gold.  In addition to the Omnium, Hammer also anchored the Team OUCH squad that took the Silver Medal in the Women's Team Pursuit.  The team consisted of Hammer, Lauren Tamayo, and Dotsie Bausch.  It is the same team that set the Team Pursuit World Record earlier this year.
Bell also had an impressive Omnium, securing his second podium in two World Cup events.  He finished in the top eight in each event aside from the Elimination Race and nearly won the Scratch Race.  Bell now sits in second place in World Cup standings with two World Cups remaining.
Both Hammer and Bell competed on Felt TK1 track bikes in each of the Omnium events.
