Millar Flies to 3rd Place Finish at Tour Prologue

Saturday, July 03, 2010
The Netherlands – Veteran British rider David Millar got the Garmin-Transitions team off to a speedy start in the 2010 Tour de France, powering his Felt DA to a third-place finish in the 8.9-kilometer prologue time trial in Rotterdam.

Riding the all-new, redesigned DA TT bike, Millar finished 20 seconds off the winning time of Swiss TT specialist Fabian Cancellara, ahead of overall Tour favorites including former winners Lance Armstrong (fourth) and Alberto Contador (sixth).

For Millar, whose main role in the three-week Tour will be supporting Garmin-Transitions GC leader Christian Vande Velde and sprinter Tyler Farrar, it was his best opening Tour stage since 2000, when he took the win. His third place on Saturday also earned him the green points leader jersey, which he will wear in Sunday's Stage 1 road race.

As for Farrar, the American surprised a lot of people with his impressive ride in Rotterdam: He finished seventh, best among the sprinters he will battle in the coming weeks, and a sure sign he has great form as he tries to score his first Tour de France stage win.

Stay tuned, it looks to be a promising Tour for the Garmin-Transitions squad!
