Trebon, Mani Sweep Spooky Cross!

Sunday, October 16, 2011
Irvine, California - Felt cyclocross riders Ryan Trebon and Caroline Mani put on a show at the October 15-16 Spooky Cross event, dominating the two-day event with back-to-back wins on Saturday night and Sunday.
Saturday’s Spooky Cross UCI C2 cyclocross race was the final race of the 2011 Cross After Dark series. With a crowd gathered under the lights on a pleasant evening at Hidden Valley park, just a few miles from Felt’s U.S. headquarters in Orange County, California, Trebon and Mani swept the pro men’s and women’s races.

Mani, a French national champion who’s currently residing in and racing in the U.S., got off to a fast start Saturday night and never looked back. She gapped the competition in the first lap and maintained a 10-second lead for most of the race. In the end, she soloed to victory.

Saturday night's men’s race saw a tight battle featuring Trebon, Belgian Ben Berden, U.S. cross-country national champion Todd Wells and local gravity-racing star Brian Lopes.

After several laps of the fast, mostly flat 3.5km course, Trebon, Berden and Wells formed a breakaway lead trio. They traded turns at the front as they negotiated technical challenges including a 75-meter-long sand pit, a stairstep run-up, and barriers.

Wells lost contact in the final lap, leaving a showdown between Trebon and the Belgian Berden. Rounding the final turn, the 6-foot-6 Trebon got the jump on his specially-made 63cm Felt F1X frame, winning the race and taking the overall Cross After Dark series title.
The next morning saw a repeat performance, with Trebon and Mani closing out their Southern California trip with two more big wins.
