— Kristin Armstrong
of the ExergyTWENTY12
continued her early-season hot streak, winning another California stage race with superior time trialing form over the weekend. The defending Olympic gold medalist won the March 16-18 San Dimas Stage Race,
which included a time trial and two road stages.
Armstrong, who is targeting early-season time trials in her attempt to qualify for the 2012 Summer Olympics
in London, smashed the field in the opening stage uphill TT on her Felt F1
road bike. She beat second-place finisher Clara Hughes of Canada by 32 seconds in the 6.1km race against the clock, which climbed nearly 1400 feet up Glendora Mountain Road.
Armstrong’s team helped her defend her lead over the next two days, as she went on to take the overall. “My team worked very well over the past few days and I am so honored to win the overall for them and Exergy Development group,” Armstrong said after taking the victory. “This weekend was perfect preparation for my European stint.”
The Exergy men’s team also had a super strong showing at San Dimas, with Morgan Schmitt
finishing fifth overall. The team’s Logan Loader
also stayed near the front of the action over the three-day race, finishing 7th in Stage 2 and fourth in Stage 3.
