Orleans, France —
John Degenkolb of the
Project 1t4i team scored a
podium finish in Monday’s second stage of
Paris-Nice. The 23-year-old German finished third on the day behind stage winner Tom Boonen and second-place finisher Jose Joaquin Rojas.
On a tough day of racing, which saw heavy cross-winds decimate the field during the 185km stage from Mantes-la-Jolie to Orléans, Degenkolb did well to stay at the front on his
Felt F1 team bike. His aggressive riding put him in a lead group of just 21 riders, as many of the overall favorites in the eight-day race lost significant time.
Degenkolb, now 12th overall after 2 stages, and the rest of his Project 1t4i teammates will continue to seek opportunities for breakaways and stage wins as the race continues south toward its finish in Nice this Sunday.
