Garmin-Transitions 2nd at Qatar opening TTT
Sunday, February 07, 2010
Qatar — The Garmin-Transitions squad opened the Tour of Qatar stage race on a high note, finishing second in Sunday’s Team Time Trial. On a typically blustery day in Qatar, which sits on the northern coast of the Arabian Peninsula, the team covered the 8.2-kilometer course in 9:49, 8 seconds behind the first-place Team Sky.
Qatar rules mandate that racers use their standard road bikes, rather than TTT bikes, so Garmin-Transitions riders, including sprinter Tyler Farrar, rode the Felt F1 SL bikes.
Farrar will be the team’s leader over the next week. He sits seventh overall in the GC heading into Monday’s 147-kilometer road race.
