Wednesday, March 24, 2010
Denmark - American Sarah Hammer won the Women’s Individual Pursuit competition at the 2010 UCI Track World Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark, Wednesday. Hammer rode her Felt bike to a winning time of 3:28.601, crushing her nearest competitors by nearly 4 seconds.
The gold medal ride marked a return to form for Hammer, who now has three World Championship titles to her name. She set a personal best time of 3:27.826 in qualifying and then easily held off Wendy Houvenaghel of Great Britain in the finals.
Hammer moved to Switzerland to train at the UCI training center in Aigle last year and says the move has paid off.
"I've been working really hard for the past eight months," she told the French news agency AFP. "Moving to Switzerland has made a huge difference to my training, not just because of the facilities but because I'm getting to train with a lot of younger athletes and that has given me a whole new perspective."
