- American Sarah Hammer
rode her Felt TK1
to a silver medal
in the omnium event
Tuesday at the London Olympics,
narrowly missing gold by just 1 point in the two-day competition.
In the second day of competition, Hammer won the individual pursuit
and the scratch race,
and entered the last event of the omnium, the 500-meter time trial, with a lead of 2 points over British rider Laura Trott.
Hammer put in a noble effort in the 500-meter race, posting a career-best time of 35.900, but lost three points to Trott.
“The 500 has been the hardest one for me in past events,” Hammer told Cyclingnews.com. “That’s what I’ve been training for. It was a personal best, I’ve never gone sub-36 [seconds].”
The silver medal was Hammer’s second of these Olympics, adding to the one she won in the team pursuit on Saturday.
