Klemencic, Enaux and Markt persuade at the home World Cup in Offenburg

Tuesday, May 25, 2010
The race of the ladies promised absolute voltage. In the end Catharine Pendrel (CAN) and Georgia Gould (USA) of Luna Pro Team celebrated together. Esther Süss from Switzerland finished on third rank. The Slovenian Blaza Klemencic, who started the race from grid 32, attacked immediately after the start and passed the stadium after the first of five laps on fifth position. But the longer the race, the more the Slovenian had to pay tribute to her furious start. The forces vanished more and more, so Klemencic finally crossed the finish line as eleventh. "With my eleventh place I am very happy. The heat and the strong competition have now demanded a lot", said the exhausted 30-year-old after the race. Also Sabrina Enaux (FRA) was happy with her performance. The 22nd place is the best result she ever achieved in Offenburg. Thereby she confirmed her constant performances of the current season. German Vice Champion Adelheid Morath had big plans for Offenburg. In the end she had to settle for place 44. Although the 25-year-old from Fribourg is still far from her top shape, she showed a tendency to rise.
In the sold out stadium, the tension just before the start was enormous. There were more potential candidates for the victory than ever before. Finally the spectators took the same picture as in the past three years. The French double Olympic champion Julien Absalon stood at the top of the podium. The Swiss world champion Nino Schurter came in as second with a delay of 49 seconds on Absalon. Czech Jaroslav Kulhavy was able to celebrate his third place. Wolfram Kurschat (9th place) and Manuel Fumic (28th place) were not able to deliver the high expectations of the German fans. Karl Markt from FELT ÖTZTAL X-BIONIC Worldcup Team caught up place to place and managed to reach his best result of the current season with place 39. "I am happy with my race today. Starting from grid 57 I was almost able to catch up almost 20 places", said the 30-year-old Austrian after the race. The German U23 champion Manfred Reis crossed the finish line on place 132. After a serious crash at “Snake Pit” his Australian team-mate Paul van der Ploeg had to retire injured in the first round. Annoying, especially because he could not prevent this accident. Another rider had driven into the rear wheel of the sympathetic Australian.
The next World Cup takes place in Champery (SUI) in the end of July. But already on 12./13. June the athletes of the FELT ÖTZTAL X-BIONIC Worldcup Team will travel to Albstadt where the third round of the German League takes place.
