Thompson 4th at Rev3 Triathlon

Tuesday, June 09, 2009
Middlebury, CT - David Thompson raced to an impressive 4th in the 2009 Revolution3 Triathlon on Sunday, a 70.3 affair that included a strong men's field. David had a particularly strong bike leg aboard his Felt DA and tells his tale like this:
“I had an okay race today at the $100,000 Rev3 Half. I ended up 4th, but had a frustrating finish, slipping from 2nd to 4th in the closing miles. I was out of the water in 5th and off bike in 2nd. Matt Reed was out front from the start of the bike to the finish. Both the bike and run course were extremely hilly. I ran easy for the first 5 miles to the turn-around, and had increased my 100yd gap on Joe Gambles and Tim O'Donnel until then. So, I picked it up from mile 6 to 8 to seal the deal and gained on Matt Reed. Unfortunately, for me Joe started feeling better too, and picked up the pace, catching me at mile 9. I matched his pace for awhile but, I started to get what felt like bone bruises on the bottom of my feet. I tried running on my heels, side of my feet, toes, anywhere. I lost my ability to push-off the last two miles and Tim caught me form way back at mile 12.9. After racing for 4 hrs, getting passed in the last .2 miles pisses you off. However, it was a really good field. Escape from Alcatraz is next is this coming weekend.”
