Felt Ötztal X-Bionic signs two MTB marathon talents

Thursday, January 14, 2010
The Felt Ötztal X-Bionic World Cup mountain bike team announced two new athlete signings that will strengthen and diversify the team’s efforts to shine in all of the disciplines of off-road endurance racing. Caroline Schiff (GER) and Vladi Riha (CZE) specialize in the longer marathon events and will focus on races such as the European Marathon Championships.

Riha, 36, and Schiff, 24, live together in Bremen, Germany, where they train and ride about 20,000 kilometers per year. Both began their careers in road racing before taking to the trails. While Riha is a full-time professional cyclist, Schiff is also a registered nurse.

“I hope I can integrate as quickly as possible in the team and have an even better season than I did last year,” said Riha. “My ultimate goal is the European Marathon Championships, and I also hope to win one or two marathons in 2010.”

The two marathon specialists join a roster that’s already packed with World Cup XC racing talent. Eight riders have been signed for 2010; joining Riha and Schiff are Simon Scheiber, Karl Markt, Manne Reis, Sabrina Enaux, Adelheid Morath and Blaza Klemencic.
