Friday, September 17, 2010
Spain Garmin-Transitions sprinter Tyler Farrar scored big points in the sprinters’ classification with a second-place finish in Friday’s Stage 19 of the Vuelta a España. Farrar powered across the line on his Felt F1 just behind Belgian Philippe Gilbert in the 231km stage from Piedrahita to Toledo. The American now sits second overall in points with two days remaining in the season’s final grand tour.

Farrar has been consistently near the front in the sprint stages of this year’s Vuelta and now trails points leader Mark Cavendish by 12 points (136 to 124).

The Garmin-Transitions team’s GC leader Tom Danielson maintained his top-10 standing on Friday. The American, who rode well in the mountains and in Wednesday’s time trial, is eighth overall.
Saturday’s Stage 20, one day before the finish in Madrid, is expected to prove decisive in the GC. Riders will face four categorized climbs, including the Bola del Mundo summit finish.
