Second German National race in Heubach – hit out before the home World Cup

Sunday, May 16, 2010
Prominent starting field
With Jose Antonio Hermida (ESP), Manuel Fumic (GER) and Wolfram Kurschat (GER) the top three podium places from Houffalize have announced their start at Heubach. Especially the two German starters hope again for a place on the podium. But the competition is very strong. Double Olympic champion Julien Absalon (FRA), Ralph Näf (SUI) and the Flückiger brothers (SUI) will also fight for victory at the second round of the German National series.  The Austrian Karl Markt, who was not satisfied with his World Cup results England and Belgium, wants to follow up on his strong performance from the German National race opener in Münsingen (10th place): "In Dalby Forest and in Houffalize, I was not as strong as I expected to be. Nevertheless, I`m in good shape and will give it my all in Heubach."
U23 separate start
Paul van der Ploeg (AUS), Simon Scheiber (AUT) and Manfred Reis (GER) will start separately with many other U23 athletes on Sunday morning. Especially Simon Scheiber aims for another top result. The young Austrian showed his strength at the World Cup in Houffalize and finished as 12th best U23 rider. For Manfred Reis and Paul van der Ploeg, things can only get better. Both national champions had to pull out in Houffalize with stomach problems (Reis) and a dislocated shoulder (van der Ploeg).

Women with a chance of winning
The prospects for the first victory of the season for the FELT ÖTZTAL X-BIONIC Worldcup Team are much better in the women's competition. After her second place in Münsingen and her furious comeback in Houffalize, the Slovenian Blaza Klemencic is a candidate for the victory in Heubach. Her teammate Sabrina Enaux (FRA), who finished as third at the second round of the French Cup last weekend, wants to confirm her strong performance of the first two World Cups of the season. World champion Irina Kalentieva (RUS), Lene Byberg (NOR), the New Zealander Rosara Joseph and Emily Batty (CAN) also belong to the favorites in Heubach.
