Danielson, Garmin-Slipstream teammates to lead U.S. Team at Worlds

Felt Bicycles will be well represented with the U.S. team competing at the 2009 UCI Road World Championships later this month in Switzerland. Four of the nine men selected for the elite men’s U.S. team are from the Felt-sponsored Garmin-Slipstream squad, including team leader Tom Danielson.

Danielson, who put in an impressive performance at the Vuelta a España before an illness affected him and ultimately forced him to abandon the race while he was still in the top-10 overall, will compete in both the road race and the time trial. If he can recover in time from a lung infection that struck in the last week of the Vuelta, Danielson is expected to excel on the tough World Championship TT and Road courses in Mendriso, Switzerland.

Joining Danielson on the U.S. elite men’s team will be Garmin-Slipstream teammates Tyler Farrar, the 25-year-old who emerged as one of the world’s top sprinters this season, along with Tim Duggan and Tom Peterson.

In addition, three riders from the Garmin-Holowesko Partners developmental squad have been named to the U.S. Under-23 team. Peter Stetina, Alex Howes and Kirk Carlsen will make up the heart of the road team. Stetina, fresh off an impressive performance at the Tour de l’Avenir stage race in France, will also compete in the U-23 Men’s Time Trial.

The 2009 UCI Road World Championships will be held September 23-27 in Mendriso, Switzerland.
