France — The Project 1t4i squad had a busy weekend, highlighted by top-10 finishes and podium placings at major races in Belgium and France.
The top result of the weekend went to German Simon Geschke, who finished third in the Stage 2 time trial at Critérium International. Geschke rode his Felt DA1 to a podium placing, just 1 second behind stage winner Cadel Evans, in the middle stage of French stage race. Also riding well for Project 1t4i at Critérium International was Frenchman Alex Geniez, who finished second overall in the Young Rider classification.
Meanwhile, at the E3 Harelbeke, a March 23 WorldTour single-day road race in Belgium, sprinter John Degenkolb dashed to sixth place on his Felt F1 team bike. Facing wind, cobbles and some of the same climbs as the upcoming Tour of Flanders, Degenkolb’s teammates helped deliver him to the front group, where he finished with the same time as the day’s winner Tom Boonen.
This year’s E3 race saw several big crashes, including one on the descent of the Boigneberg, which took down Project 1T4i rider Koen de Kort. The Dutchman fractured a rib and lacerated his knee, which required stitches. The injuries will keep de Kort sidelined for the upcoming Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix spring classics.
