Hesjedal receives top honors from Canadian Cyclist

Canada — Ryder Hesjedal of the Garmin-Transitions team took two major awards from the online publication Canadian Cyclist last week. A stage winner at the 2009 Vuelta a España, Hesjedal was voted as Canadian Cyclist of the Year. On top of that, the former mountain bike champion was also named Canadian Cyclist of the Decade. Both awards were determined by a reader poll on

“To receive an award like this from the public and Canadian Cyclist is very special, and made me reflect on the past year again,” Hesjedal said about the 2009 honor. “It was definitely a big year for me.”

Commenting on his Cyclist of the Decade award, Hesjedal said,  “It is good to see that recognition about my consistency. I've been going pretty hard the last ten years, and this [award] is a tribute to that.”
