Lavelle Dominates at Malibu Triathlon
Saturday, September 13, 2008
Sept 13, 2008, Malibu, Calif—Felt-sponsored professional triathlete Becky Lavelle continues her unbelievable tear across the country this season, winning everything in sight. With wins at the Chicago Triathlon and Los Angeles Triathlon of late. Moving a few miles up the coast to take on the debut Olympic distance event at the famed Malibu Triathlon, could she make it three wins in a row?
The day before celebs Jennifer Lopez and Matthew McConaughey took part in the sprint triathlon in Malibu, a stacked field of pros took on the non-drafting debut event on Saturday.
Out of the water and onto Zuma Beach first, Lavelle worked her specialty—the bike, or more specifically, her wicked fast Felt DA—to grow her lead to just over a minute and a half lead by the time she finished the 40k bike.
And this was after she had to stop and pull her chain back back onto the front ring after dropping it between ring and frame in the closing miles of the bike.
From there, it was cruise control through the 10k run, as she went largely unchallenged the rest of the day to take the victory over Bejiing Olympian Julie Swail Ertel. The win marked her third straight win as she prepares for USAT Nationals in Portland, Oregon.
