Zabriskie takes top honors in USA Cycling Professional Tour

Tuesday, September 15, 2009
Success at last week’s Tour of Missouri stage race helped propel Garmin-Slipstream’s David Zabriskie to the overall individual title in the season-long USA Cycling Professional Tour standings. Zabriskie, who won both a stage and the overall title at the Tour of Missouri last week, finished the season with 342 points, enough to best second-place finisher Levi Leipheimer of Team Astana.

Zabriskie, who resides in Salt Lake City, Utah, follows in the footsteps of his Garmin-Slipstream teammate Christian Vande Velde, who won last year’s USA Cycling Professional Tour title.

The USA Cycling Professional Tour consists of all the internationally-sanctioned events in the United States and USA Cycling’s three professional road championships in the disciplines of criterium, time trial and road racing. Zabriskie also won his fourth consecutive U.S. Time Trial National Championship and finished second overall in the Amgen Tour of California this year.

In addition to Zabriskie’s individual accolades, Garmin-Slipstream finished second overall in the team standings behind Columbia-High Road.
